Finally, a Backup that Works
One of the things I am obsessive about is having my work disappear. I have had hard disks die in the past and ever since I have been religeous about backing up my data I need and want to save. It helps that backing up has become easier with big hard drives and faster CD burners. Recently I have been searching for an remote backup solution for one of my customers. We tried a “hacked” method. It had a tendency to simply drop the connection before the backup was completed.
The next thing I did of course was to Google “cloud backup” and I checked out the various services that I discovered. I tried several and decided on OPENRSM CloudBackup. The neat thing is that it has high end features, works on MAC, Linux, and Windows, and has a scalable pricing model. The default offering is 50GB of file storage for only $4.00/month. OPENRSM CloudBackup lets you have as many computers as you want and only charges extra if go use over 50GB of storage. And at pennies per Gig, that’s pretty cool.
A lot of the online backup services were similar, the two things that make OPENRSM CloudBackup better was support for multiple systems and network drive. In my own office here I have my one remaining Windows machine and my Linux desktop. Using OPENRSM CloudBackup it can also able to backup all of those files remotely as well. Now I have a local backup of my files in case of hard drive failure on my desktop, and a remote online backup in case there is some other kind of catastrophe here at my house. The initial backup can take a little while, but once you get the first backup done it does not take very long to do the other incremental backups.
If you run your own business you need an easy online backup, or even if you just want to safeguard your home system, give OPENRSM CloudBackup a try. I’m very happy now that I have my home and work systems running with it. I hope I won’t need to restore my files with it (it does work well though, I tested it) but knowing my work is safe in case of disaster is good.
